Delaney Janz, a master's student in the College of Education and Health Professions, was recently chosen to participate in the Major League Baseball On Deck Sales Program. The eight-week program provides participants with virtual training sessions in ticketing sales and hands-on experience with MLB teams. The experience acts as a pipeline for those who want to work behind the scenes of the sports industry.

Although Janz spent her time as an undergraduate in the Sam M. Walton College of Business, she knew a career in sports was meant for her. She decided to further her knowledge of athletics as a graduate student in the recreation and sports management master's program.

Janz grew up the daughter of an athletic director, and when she was offered a graduate assistant position for Razorback Athletics' ticket operations and sales, she said it felt natural.

"I enjoy the community and networking it allows. There are so many of us that I am always seeing people who work in different departments," Janz said. "Since athletics can have long hours and late nights, being a GA provides a sense of camaraderie and builds relationships. Sharing these experiences with my fellow Razorbacks only enhances my anticipation for the next year."

With her experience in the On Deck winter cohort, Janz has the opportunity to further her knowledge of the sports industry by meeting people who currently work in MLB and students across the country with similar interests.

"We are essentially getting training sessions from sales executives and working hands-on with the 30 MLB teams," she said. "In the first few weeks, we have heard from multiple women leaders ranging from sales teams to executives."

Janz is looking ahead to a future that will allow her to work in professional sports full-time.

"I have loved to help people experience the teams they love and see the passion Razorback fans have," she said. "I would love to pursue a career in professional sports, with the ability to focus on one team year-round."
