Community Invited to Online Vigil for Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Jan. 15

The annual Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. vigil will be conducted virtually this year.

The Associated Student Government, Distinguished Lectures Committee and the Black Students Association at the U of A invite the campus and community to celebrate and remember the legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. at the annual vigil at noon on Monday, Jan. 15, to be held virtually. Attendees must pre-register using this link: 2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Vigil Registration. In addition to the vigil, ASG encourages all to view the 2024 MLK Calendar of Events for other events and service opportunities.

This year's vigil will include remarks from Chancellor Charles Robinson and Lindsey Leverett-Higgins of the NWA MLK Council and a moderated Q&A with LaTosha Brown, co-founder of Black Voters Matter.

The Associated Student Government at the U of A is a student-led organization that acts as an organized voice for all students and strives to effectively represent student interest. ASG is a program in the Division of Student Affairs.

The Black Students Association serves to promote the educational, moral and cultural awareness among black students at the U of A. Their goal is to provide a forum from which scholarly decisions are made that promote educational success of minorities in higher education.

Distinguished Lectures Committee decides which dynamic and pertinent speakers to bring to the U of A campus. These speaking engagements are completely free to all students. Some of the speakers brought over the past few years have been President George H.W. Bush, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, soccer star Abby Wambach, author Malcolm Gladwell, Jane Goodall, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Elie Wiesel, Bill Nye and John Legend. DLC is a program in the Division of Student Affairs.
