'Internet of Networked Microgrids Solution for Scalable Agile Microgrids' Lecture Today

Professor Stephen B. Bayne, chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering at Texas Tech University, will give a lecture on the "Internet of Networked Microgrids Solution for Scalable Agile Microgrids" at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Bell Engineering 2273.

Bayne has earned several research and teaching awards throughout his career, most notably the Barnie E. Rushing Jr. Faculty Distinguished Research Award in STEM Disciplines. He specializes in power electronics, power semiconductor devices, grid integration and renewable energy.

Bayne will discuss the problems of buildings losing power, the process of power returning and the wasteful strain on resources to restore normal operations. Currently, there isn't a system in place to manage this situation. Baynes will discuss a solution based on the VOLTTRON open-source platform. This proposal integrates the networked-building control algorithm and enables internal communication between the several controllers over the buildings and the central unit. This solution enables advanced monitoring, control and communication of controllable microgrid assets, improving reliability and resiliency.
