Free, Virtual OE-AR+ Symposium to Be Held Oct. 27
The OE-AR+ Symposium: Bringing the Public Back will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27. This virtual event welcomes people interested in open educational materials in Arkansas and neighboring states. The symposium is free to attend, and links to the recorded sessions will be sent to all who register.
"The University of Arkansas Libraries are committed to improving affordability for the students we serve," said Jason Battles, dean of libraries. "Open educational resources are a vehicle for us to meaningfully impact the financial burden of higher education. Our support of and participation in organizing the OE-AR+ Symposium demonstrates our desire to engage others in our state and region in improving the availability and quality of open educational resources."
U of A faculty presenting or participating in panels include Dave Bostwick, vice chair of the School of Journalism and Strategic Media; John C. Davis, executive director of the Pryor Center and associate professor of political science; Matt Evans, adjunct lecturer of political science; Lynn T. Meade, teaching assistant professor for student success; and Christine Rickabaugh, open education librarian. They will be joined by colleagues from the University of Arkansas-Monticello, Arkansas State University-Mountain Home, Black River Technical Institute, the University of Colorado, Houston Community College, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, Northwest Arkansas Community College and Oklahoma State University.
Topics to be covered include Open Educational Resources basics, creating a strategic plan, vetting open educational resources, using artificial intelligence to enhance open educational resources, imagining a statewide consortium and more. A full list of events is available on the symposium website.
