Razorback Transit Introduces New Articulated Bus

Razorback Transit Introduces New Articulated Bus

The U of A Transit and Parking Department has a new bus riding around Fayetteville. Razorback Transit's articulated bus, purchased from Nova Bus, is an accordion-style bus that features two sections linked together. The design increases capacity, able to hold nearly double the number of passengers as a standard bus.

The move was made in response to an increase in enrollment on campus, which has resulted in some capacity constraints. The new bus will run on routes with the highest ridership demand to help alleviate those instances.

"We expect this articulated bus to build upon and improve our efforts to make sure every member of our campus community, and the Fayetteville community as a whole, is able to utilize our buses to get them where they need to go," said Adam Waddell, director of Razorback Transit.

The newest addition to the Razorback Transit repertoire is a result of a pilot project conducted last year to see if the articulated bus would meaningfully improve the Transit Department's current process. After months of extensive research and tests, it was determined that the new bus would be a worthy upgrade.

"Our pilot test for this bus was a success," Waddell said. "We were very pleased with what we observed, and now we are excited to get it on the road around campus."

Razorback Transit operates Monday-Saturday and serves the U of A campus as well as the Fayetteville community. There are nine routes in circulation, and you can view each route's schedule on the Transit and Parking website.
