Federal Government Shutdown Avoided, 45-Day Continuing Resolution Passes

The U.S. Congress avoided a federal government shutdown over the weekend, passing a temporary 45-day continuing resolution to keep the government open until a final budget for fiscal year 2024 is passed and signed into law.

This 45-day continuing resolution will expire Nov. 17 and — if by that date the FY24 budget or another continuing resolution is not passed — then the nation would again face the potential of a federal government shutdown.

The Chancellor and Provost’s Offices, in conjunction with the offices of the Vice Chancellor for Governmental Relations and Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, will continue to monitor the FY24 appropriations process and keep the University of Arkansas campus community informed accordingly.

If needed, updates would be added to the university's website covering a potential federal government shutdown as they become available.
