Become a Faculty Partner With University Housing

Faculty in Residence is a University Housing initiative that encourages interaction between residents and faculty members in a hall setting. University Housing has two people serving in the Faculty in Residence role currently. They live on campus in the residence halls and support undergraduate students living on campus.

The purpose of the initiative is to enhance the social, cultural and educational life of residential students through programs and activities designed to foster feelings of community among the students.

University Housing would like to say farewell and thank you to Shirin Saeidi, assistant professor of political science, for three years of service as a Faculty in Residence participant. Brian Holland, assistant professor of architecture, and his partner, Janet Foxman, will continue to bring excitement and community to the Honeycomb neighborhood, Adohi and Pomfret Halls through a variety of interactions, including their popular monthly stoop programs.

University Housing is now accepting applications for the Faculty in Residence vacancy.

Benefits include:

  • Semi-furnished three to four bedroom apartment (Internet, basic cable, local telephone service, utilities).
  • A partial meal plan (approximately 10 meals per week during spring and fall semesters) when dining halls are operational.

Applicants must be full-time, 100% appointed faculty members currently employed at the U of A. Applicants who are tenured or on tenure-track faculty are preferred.

Candidates should have a minimum of two to three years of university teaching experience and demonstrated experience in academic advising and mentoring.

Student-centered, collaborative with residence life staff, able to work with students and build sustainable links between curricular and co-curricular experiences.

Adopt A Prof

University Housing invites our campus faculty to participate in the Adopt A Prof program connecting faculty with residential students and creating social experiences outside the classroom.

Faculty become honorary members of the residential community and interact with residents on an informal but intentional level. The program allows faculty to be integrated into the programming aspects of the residence hall to the extent their schedule allows.

This type of interaction connects the academic pursuits of the on-campus students with their lives outside of the classroom.

Adopt A Prof faculty serve as "pseudo mentors," sharing their own topical perspective and life experiences with residents through events like movie screenings and discussions, sponsored study breaks or competing in events such as "Are You Smarter Than a Professor."

Faculty are asked to participate in two events per semester based on availability. They are also asked to attend one hall staff meeting and at least one individual meeting with the academic resident assistant from the assigned hall per semester.

Faculty are invited to participate in social events throughout the academic year, including meet-and-greet and an end-of-the-year appreciation event where they will receive a certificate of recognition from University Housing for their collaboration and support.

Those interested in serving as an Adopt A Prof should complete the form attached in the link below by Friday, Sept 8.
