Mental Health Matters Resource Stickers and Magnets in Student Housing and Campus Buildings

The Pat Walker Health Center's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) applied and secured $2,500 in grant funding from the Division of Student Affairs Executive Leadership Board to purchase mental health resource stickers to be placed in bathroom stalls of residence halls and other campus buildings.  

The "Mental Health Matters Resources" project helps build on three of the Division of Student Affairs 2023-24 priorities of well-being, collaboration/communication and student belonging. The project was a combined effort between CAPS and University Housing to develop and disseminate the stickers in residence hall bathrooms. Magnet versions of the stickers were also put on refrigerators in off-campus apartments, and finally, CAPS worked with Facilities Management to have the stickers put up in all bathroom stalls in campus buildings this summer prior to students returning for classes in the fall.  

"We were looking for a way to help as many students as possible know what kinds of mental health services are available to them on campus, and we wanted them to be able to find and review those options in a place they would feel safe and not judged," said Jack Rindahl, CAPS mental health clinician and outreach coordinator. 

The "Mental Health Matters Resources" project shares the message with the U of A campus community that "it is okay to reach out for help," along with the CAPS phone number (479-575-5276), which also serves as an afterhours phone line for anyone from our community who may be in a mental health crisis. Each sticker and magnet have a QR code that takes whoever scans them to the Mental Health Matters Resource webpage that provides quick information about the critical mental health resources that CAPS offers. 

"I want to thank everyone who helped make these stickers happen, including the Executive Leadership Board, Housing, FAMA and anyone else who contributed to this project. I especially want to thank Breeanne Carter for helping me immensely in every step of the process," Rindahl said.
