University of Arkansas Associated Student Government was recognized as the Southeastern Conference Student Government of the Year at SEC Exchange 2023 hosted by the University of Mississippi in Oxford from July 13-15.
JD DiLoreto-Hill, ASG advisor, said, "This award is such a testament to the hard work and servant leadership demonstrated by the 200-plus members of ASG every day. ASG's success is a further testament to the university's leadership and their commitment to shared governance and the student voice. I am so proud of them for this well-deserved honor."
Each year, the host institution is tasked with reviewing nomination forms for multiple award categories. The honor for Student Government of the Year represents the institution whose overall service stood out amongst the other institutions. ASG's award nomination focused on excellence in advocacy and programming under former student body president, Lauren Loften. The nomination had a specific focus on three programs:
- Success of the U of A student poll, which had a participation rate of nearly 20%.
- Beat Big Blue Blood Drive, which collected nearly 750 units of blood for the American Red Cross.
- ASG's direct involvement in the chancellor search.
