The Staff Senate is pleased to announce the U of A Employee of the Fourth Quarter Awards for 2022-23.

Winners for the fourth quarter are:

Category I - Professional/Non-Faculty - Academic
Melissa Erwin — As assistant dean of Financial Affairs, Graduate School and International Education, Erwin introduced financial strategies and models that not only addressed immediate fiscal crises but also implemented cost-saving measures benefiting the university's long-term financial outlook. 

Category I - Professional/Non-Faculty - Administrative 
Mercedes Gazaway — Holding the position of executive administrator at the Institute for Integrative & Innovative Research, Gazaway has been notably proficient at helping with onboarding, IT issues, administrative concerns, and navigating the complexities of the UA system.

Category II - Secretarial/Clerical  
Jan Warren — Although her primary role is that of an administrative support supervisor in the Department of Biological Sciences, Warren effortlessly filled gaps in fiscal support, assisting with tasks like booking accommodations, managing expense reports, and arranging airfare.

Category III - Technical/Paraprofessional  
Ashley Mitchell — Despite being relatively new in the supervisory role as serials librarian at Mullins Library, Mitchell seamlessly stepped in and tackled the unique challenges presented by the migration of serials records to a new catalog system, onesearch.uark.edu.

Category IV - Skilled/Service/Maintenance  
No nominees

Congratulations and thank you to these exceptional staff members for their hard work and service! They will receive a certificate and a monetary award for their selection. Employee of the Quarter recipients will also be submitted as candidates for the Employee of the Year.

Arkansas Folk and Traditional Arts to Host Potter Stephen Driver Sept. 30

Driver will discuss Arkansas pottery traditions during the next installment of the Arkansas Folklife Web Series, which is set for 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30.

New NSF Grant Will Expand Collaboration for Geosciences and Arkansas Archeological Survey

The grant will allow acquistion of a new mass spectrometer that can be used by scientists — nine faculty members and an archeologist — who plan to work together on a variety of research activities.
