New Italian Course: Tracing the Italian American Experience for Fall 2023

Are you interested in Italian or Italian American culture? Do you have Italian ancestry? Have you migrated from one country to another and want to explore similar diasporic situations? If so, consider enrolling in ITAL 4143/5143: Tracing the Italian American Experience this fall on Tuesdays from 3:05-5:35 p.m.

The course will be taught in English, and all films will be subtitled. This course aims not only to share a historical, literary and cultural review of the Italian American experience in North America through screen studies, but also to analyze the stereotypical (or not) representation Italian Americans have received through the media, literature and the arts. All genres of literature will be covered in the course, and some attention will be given to Italian migration to the South and Southwest, including Arkansas.

Students will receive credit toward the Italian major and/or minor. Students will also participate in the Italian American Studies Association (IASA)'s annual conference, hosted at the U of A in October. Available for undergraduate or graduate credit.
