The Office for Faculty Affairs announces a call for applications for the Provost's Fellow Program. This program provides administrative leadership experience for the U of A faculty. The Provost's Fellow works on a project of strategic importance to the university and provides recommendations for implementation to the provost.

This year, one fellow will be chosen to work on a project aligned with the Provost Office's strategic priorities. The areas in which proposals will be considered are:

  • Development of frameworks for decision-making about faculty retention and best practices in retention strategies.

  • Leveraging existing departmental faculty onboarding and mentoring programs or adaptation of existing programs (e.g., Bridge Program, Peer Mentoring Circles) to improve faculty belonging, professional growth and university engagement at all stages of their career span.

We are also interested in innovative proposals for strategic university priorities focusing on faculty and ways to foster a respectful environment where faculty may thrive and excel in the academic enterprise of teaching, research and service.

The fellowship will begin in the fall 2023 semester and run through the spring 2024 semester. During the fall 2023 semester, the fellow will receive a $5,000 stipend. A stipend of $5,000 for the spring semester will be awarded to the academic unit from which the faculty member is selected, covering one class, if the fellow chooses to apply for release time; if there is no reduction in the teaching load, the fellow can choose to receive the $5,000 stipend.

Applicants must submit a two-page proposal outlining their project, a short bio highlighting their experiences and expertise relative to the proposed project, a current CV and an endorsement letter from the faculty's department chair/head. All faculty in professorial ranks and department chairs/heads are eligible to apply. All faculty applications must be endorsed by the faculty's department chair/head, and the dean must support department chair/head applications. The link to the application can be found here. The application deadline is Sept. 1.

Applications will be reviewed by a committee representing the Provost's Office and academic colleges. The committee will recommend top proposals to the provost and the vice provost for faculty affairs.

The fellow will be notified about their selection by Sept. 15.
