Osiyo! This fall we begin our third year of Cherokee at the U of A. Lawrence Panther, a member of Cherokee Nation, a fluent speaker of Cherokee and a great storyteller will offer beginning Cherokee (CHRK 1003) on MWF from 3:05 to 3:55 p.m. This first of four course offerings gives you an opportunity to learn about the language and the culture of the Cherokee people and interact with various members of the Cherokee nation. Throughout each semester, you learn the Cherokee writing system, hear stories and also explore and develop knowledge of this language as well as the history and culture of the Cherokee nation.

All majors are welcome! The courses help to satisfy world language requirements and also support students enrolled in the Indigenous studies minor. Other courses this fall include CHRK 1013, 2-2:50 p.m. MWF, and WLLC 398V or Intermediate Cherokee I, 4:10-5:25 p.m. MW. Entry into these courses can be made either through previous experience with the language or completion of the prior semester's course (CHRK 1003 leads to CHRK 1013, for example). Hope to see you this fall!
