Join the July 27 High-Impact Practices Show and Tell

The University of Arkansas campus community is invited to the High-Impact Practices (HIP) Show and Tell from 1-4 p.m. Thursday, July 27, in the Cordia Harrington Center for Excellence.

Supported by the newly initiated campus-wide HIP Collaborative, this event will feature faculty and staff from throughout campus who will promote and describe their respective HIP work with an open-house style and science fair flair.

Faculty, staff, administrators and students are invited to drop in at the various show-and-tell stations to discover more about how HIPs are implemented around campus.

"HIPs are evidence-based strategies and practices that faculty and staff can do to help our students succeed and thrive while at the U of A and beyond," said Deb Korth, assistant dean for student success in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, who is leading the HIP initiative alongside Trevor Francis, associate vice provost for student success.

"This event is about everyone sharing ideas that have been proven to help our students thrive personally and intellectually," Korth added. "There are incredible things being done on our campus and we hope what people learn at this event will inspire them to do be 'hip' in their work in supporting our students."

The event is free and open to the entire campus community. Light refreshments will be available thanks to the support of Student Affairs. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP here

“High-impact practices add tremendous value to the student experience, so meeting as a campus to review our HIPs and to explore ways to scale them is an essential practice,” Francis said. “We hope faculty and staff from across campus will join us as we meet in July to highlight some of our best U of A HIPs.”

According to the Association of American Colleges and Universities, research indicates that the following HIPs promote student success: 

  • First-year experiences
  • Common intellectual experiences
  • Learning communities
  • Writing-intensive courses
  • Collaborative assignments and projects
  • Undergraduate research
  • Diversity/global learning
  • ePortfolios
  • Service learning
  • Community-based learning
  • Internships
  • Capstone courses and projects

In addition, the University of Arkansas recognizes "wellness" as an additional high-impact practice leading to student success.
