U of A Chapter of Student Speech Language Hearing Association Receives National Honors

U of A Chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association has received honors from the national organization.

The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association's chapter honors are awarded to affiliated NSSLHA chapters that demonstrate an outstanding effort to support the association's mission to inspire, empower and support students in communication sciences and disorders programs.

Along with achieving Gold Honors, the 165 members of the NSSLHA chapter at the U of A also raised money and donations for their philanthropy, Arkansas Children's Hospital. Based in Little Rock, Arkansas Children's Hospital is the only pediatric-centered hospital system in the state. With satellite locations in Springdale, Jonesboro, Pine Bluff and Rogers, Arkansas Children's Hospital is committed to "making children better today and healthier tomorrow."

The U of A NSSLHA chapter raised money through percentage nights with community partners to support their philanthropy. They also provided emergency disaster relief donations to the Little Rock community and participated in events with the Arkansas Hands and Voices Organization.

Contributions made by the U of A chapter to achieve Gold Chapter Honors included:

  • Maintaining National NSSLHA chapter affiliation
  • Posting monthly chapter updates in the NSSLHA community
  • Maintaining 30% national NSSLHA membership within the chapter
  • Participating in community outreach activities
  • Participating in legislative advocacy
  • Fundraising $200 for ASHFoundation's NSSLHA Scholarship
