Ongoing Efforts to Increase Cybersecurity on Campus
Sending safe emails, using a VPN and keeping software up to date are a few steps users can take to keep data secure.
As cybersecurity threats increase and evolve, the U of A continues to increase efforts to protect sensitive data on university accounts and university-owned computers.
"Cybersecurity has perhaps never been a bigger priority for our university than it is now," said Steve Krogull, chief information officer for campus. "Our IT Services team is working diligently to ensure faculty, staff and student information stays protected. We are also equipping our campus community to spot and avoid potential scams themselves."
Some of the recent security measures that have been implemented include email security tips and warnings, quarantined "potential spam" emails and potentially unwanted application blockers on university-owned computers. IT Services recently published a list of new security features added to protect our campus community.
"As hackers and cyberthreats continue to evolve, it is imperative that we all do our part to make sure our data is secure," Chief Information Security Officer Stephen Tycer said. "Increased awareness and being proactive about protecting sensitive information will ultimately enhance cybersecurity on campus."
IT Services will continue to provide regular updates regarding cybersecurity through the Arkansas News. Securing sensitive data requires the active participation of everyone. Simple steps like storing data securely in OneDrive, using a VPN, avoiding and reporting suspicious messages and keeping software updated are a few proactive steps users can take to keep sensitive data secure.
