Christal Badour, associate professor of clinical psychology at the University of Kentucky.
The Department of Psychological Science is proud to announce the return of one of our alumni!
Disgust and shame are common responses to sexual trauma and are important to understand in order to help survivors heal. Christal Badour, an associate professor of clinical psychology at the University of Kentucky, is a leading researcher in this area. She will discuss her work in an upcoming talk entitled, "Disgust, shame, and feelings of being contaminated: Understanding recovery from sexual trauma." This in-person guest presentation is hosted by the Department of Psychological Science and will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, in Chemistry Building room 0144.
Badour received her Ph.D. and M.A. in clinical psychology from the U of A, after earning a bachelor's degree in psychology and political science from Tulane University. Badour is the director of the Stress, Trauma, and Recovery Research Collaborative, one of three research programs housed with the University of Kentucky Clinic for Emotional Health.
Badour's research focuses on understanding the development, maintenance and treatment of psychopathology following exposure to violence and other traumatic events. Current projects in Badour's lab fall within the three following areas: trauma and emotion, maximizing responses to trauma-focused interventions, and understanding causes of health disparities and promoting health equity.
