Research Grant Opportunities
The Office of Undergraduate Research is pleased to announce the following research grant opportunities:
The Hazel and Derek Sears Endowed Scholarship in Space and Planetary Sciences
The purpose of The Hazel and Derek Sears Endowed Scholarship in Space and Planetary Sciences will be to support students enrolled in the university and currently conducting research with a faculty member in the Arkansas Center for Space and Planetary Sciences at the U of A.
Eligible students must be conducting research with a faculty member in the Arkansas Center for Space and Planetary Sciences and meet one of the following criteria:
- A graduate program in the Graduate School and International Education,
- Undergraduate research programs (e.g., NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates program or similar),
- Conducting research as part of their degree requirements in the Honors College or
- Conducting research as independent studies with a member of the space center faculty.
Fui T. Chan and Kaiyuan Chen Endowed Research Scholarship
The Fui T. Chan and Kaiyuan Chen Endowed Research Scholarship was established to provide support for undergraduate physics majors to pursue and conduct research under the supervision and mentorship of a faculty member in the Department of Physics.
Qualified applicants will:
- Have a minimum cumulative UA GPA of 3.00
- Be sophomores, juniors, or seniors at the time they receive the award
- Have secured a U of A faculty member to supervise their research at the time they apply for the scholarship.
Preference for this scholarship is given to applicants with financial need and students who are not currently members of the Honors College.
Professor Edward E. Dale Research Award
The purpose of the Professor Edward E. Dale Research Award will be to support students with financial need and academic potential who demonstrate an interest to pursue and conduct research under the supervision and mentorship of a faculty member at the university.
Eligible students should review following criteria and requirements:
- Each applicant will be evaluated based on the student's academic potential, aptitude and interest in gaining new knowledge through research, with the goal of inspiring students to succeed academically and consider graduate education/research.
- Preference will be given to students with an interest in botany.
- Each applicant must complete an application through the document included to be considered for the research award.
- The research award must be used to directly support the recipient's research project.
- The recipient will be required to write a report at the conclusion of their research project and provide a complimentary copy to Dr. Huffman that will accompany his annual stewardship report.
The deadline for applying to the above research grants is March 15. 2023. Duly completed applications should be uploaded via the link in each respective award title.
