Quarterly Financial Affairs Service and Innovation Award Goes to Angela Salrin

The Office of Financial Affairs created a financial innovators award known as the Financial Affairs Service and Innovation Award to recognize those throughout the university who make significant and lasting contributions to the university through bold, innovative and creative approaches to common, everyday university problems.

The award is open to any university faculty, non-faculty, academic, administrative or skilled crafts/service/maintenance employees who bring forward fresh ideas that lead to process efficiencies, cost savings and/or increased productivity. Each quarter, one employee will be selected to receive the award, and then at the end of the calendar year an annual award winner will be selected from the four quarterly winners.

We are pleased to announce the Q4 2022 award winner as:

Angela Salrin, director of University Print/Mail/Copy Services

Salrin was hired by the university in December 1989 and very quickly began to contribute to the essential work of the university at the highest level of excellence. Over her 33-plus year university career, Salrin has become well known for her strong work ethic, pleasing personality and sincere desire to help others. 

Salrin has a true passion and commitment to help the university achieve excellence by doing whatever is necessary to move the university forward. As the university transitioned its University Bookstore to Barnes and Noble, there were significant balances which remained owed to the university by a multitude of publishers and companies the university had worked with while operating the bookstore. Collecting those balances was a top priority for the university.

Cale Fessler, associate vice chancellor for budget, financial planning and business affairs, knew it would take a great deal of time and effort in order to analyze all of the accounts, reconcile the balances owed and work through their collection. Knowing that, he did not hesitate to ask Salrin for her help in the process, and to her continuing credit, she willingly stepped up and took on the responsibility while also continuing to effectively lead the university's Print/Mail/Copy Services team.

To date, the university has seen the collection of a significant portion of the outstanding balances, and it is all due, in the largest part, to Salrin's hard work. When told of the Q4 2022 FASI award going to Salrin, Cale said of Salrin, "I can count on her putting forward this kind of effort not only on this project, but in everything she does for the university, and for that reason, I believe she is extremely deserving of this recognition."

Salrin's dedication and diligence above the call of duty with the bookstore project makes her very deserving of the Q4 2022 Financial Affairs Service and Innovation Award. Please join us in congratulating Angela Salrin!
