Staff Senate Meeting Notes

Staff Senate meeting notes for Oct. 13 meeting (please note, these do not take the place of official meeting minutes):

HR Updates:

  • The employee awards banquet is being assessed to determine if the purpose of the event is being served.
  • Open enrollment is Oct. 31 to Nov. 14. You MUST do the tobacco attestation pledge.
  • There will be benefits information sessions from 10 a.m. to noon on Nov. 1 and 7
  • Two candidates interviewing for the vice chancellor position will be on campus next week.
  • The classification/compensation project is in the data gathering stage.

Parking and Transit Updates:

  • Garland Avenue garage is 24/7 student reserved.
  • Men's basketball will be using lots 44, 52, 54 and 57.
  • FAMA third-shift employees will now have the option to get a two-hour permit.
  • An articulated bus will be on campus for four weeks for us to test. They can hold 50 more people.

Awards Update:

  • Part-time award winner was announced in Arkansas News.
  • First quarter EOQ nominations are due Saturday.

Internal Affairs Update:

  • Remote/Flex work policy discussions continue.
  • The remote/flex work committee is preparing recommendations for incentives for people who are not able to work remotely.
  • With the pilot, unit leaders can implement restrictions.

Legislative Updates:

  • Early voting will take place in Bud Walton on Oct. 26-28 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Events Update:

  • Staff Appreciation Snack Break was held at the Union. It was suggested that the announcement of events are sent out earlier.
  • ASG has submitted a proposal requesting that election day be a holiday to promote civil engagement.
  • The childcare proposal has been sent to the chancellor and was well received.
  • There are currently 59,000 hours in the catastrophic leave bank. Encourage anyone you know who is in need to apply. There are two requirements:
    • Must have been employed by the university for at least one year.
    • Must have at least 80 hours of leave.

Data Science Program to Be Led by Previous Engineering Dean While Director Search Begins

Former Dean John English will serve as director while a search for the successor to University Professor Manuel Rosetti, the Data Science Program's inaugural director, is conducted.
