Libraries' Anderson Contributes to Recently Published Anti-Racism Toolkit
Martha Anderson, director of diversity, equity and inclusion for University Libraries, worked for five months along with other volunteers for the Coalition for Diversity & Inclusion in Scholarly Communications to create the recently published Antiracism Toolkit for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.
"I am honored to be part of this project," said Anderson. "So many colleagues invested a great amount of time into providing a living resource for BIPOC scholars and scholarly publishing workers."
According to the coalition's press release, "This new toolkit is the result of the work of a group of BIPOC-identifying publishing professionals of all levels from across the United States and Canada. The objective is to be a living document and the start of an ongoing conversation, as well as a resource for current and future generations of BIPOC workers in the academic publishing industry."
The document covers barriers to entry in the publishing industry, tips on building community and more. It is the latest of three in the coalition's Toolkits for Equity collection, and Anderson contributed as an editor and partial author. She will be among those presenting the toolkit at the 2022 George Washington Ethics Publishing Conference next month.
