Katelyn Burks, a fiscal manager and program coordinator who also recently became president of the College of Engineering's Staff Council, was named Engineering Employee of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2022.

In the nomination, Burks was described as a team player who's so vital that she's considered the "glue" that makes the office physically and fiscally operational. In addition, the nominators said she has gone above and beyond to help co-workers, students and visitors who need assistance "with a positive attitude, in a timely manner and with great care."

One said, "I was so sincerely appreciative of just the kindness and willingness to help with items that were not originally Katelyn's tasks to complete. She is a wonderful asset to our team and an even better human."

Another praised Burks' responsiveness and kindness in helping while their office was not at full staff.

"Katelyn has been a true lifesaver for our office. … She has helped us continue to meet the needs of our faculty, staff and students while also doing her regular job duties."

Burks joined the College of Engineering in August 2017 as office manager for the recruitment office and became the office's fiscal support manager in October 2021. As part of her office manager duties, she serves as coordinator for the STEM Prep Program.

She holds a bachelor's degree in communication from the University of Oklahoma and has seven years' experience in administrative management.

Her nomination was supported by her supervisor, Assistant Dean of Enrollment and Retention Eric Specking, and five co-workers.
