The Fifth Annual U of A Bicycle Safety Block Party Is This Thursday
The U of A's Office for Sustainability is hosting its annual Bicycle Safety Block Party this year from 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Peace Fountain.
Come check out the Bike Block Party and learn about what the U of A Campus and Fayetteville has to offer and connect with the bike community.
This event will have something for everyone with handouts from vendors, fun activities, and a bicycle show with three categories for you to participate in—most tricked out bike, retro bike, and weird bike. There will be fun prizes you can win such as ENO Hammocks, Nalgene bottles, and Miir stainless steel cups for participating in the bicycle show and other activities. Bring your bike out for the bike show or just come and hangout!
The event will wrap up with a guided bike ride that will offer short, medium distance and mountain bike options, all ending at the Fayetteville Square for food at First Thursday.
This annual event's purpose is to increase awareness and understanding of the opportunities, challenges and state laws associated with riding bicycles and e-scooters for transportation and recreation. The event will consist of fun, safety-oriented educational events, encouragement activities, a group photo about 3:30 p.m., and a guided bike ride!
Pedal It Forward will be giving away 20 free recycled bicycles to international students; those will be available to pick up during the event.
Cycle September is also being promoted at this event as it is on September 1st. This is a cool program where you register and log biking miles under your organization, such as the University of Arkansas, and are in competition with others. Once you register and log your bike rides you are eligible to win cool prizes!
