MUIN 2011 Contemporary Commercial Songwriting
This course is online through Global Campus
Instructor: Jake Hertzog
Course Description: Students will create a portfolio of original songs; explore the historical, commercial and cultural aspects of successful songs and artists; and gain an understanding of aspects of the songwriting business. Fundamentals of music theory for songwriters will be addressed as well as demo creation, marketing and networking.

21st Century Music Industry (w/ Al Bell): MUIN 3213

Course Description: This course serves as an overview of the 21st century music industry, covering its history, current developments and foundational concepts. The course includes in-depth examination of the publishing, recording and live entertainment components of the music industry as well as contemporary entrepreneurial pathways.
Composing Film & Television: MUIN 3403
This course is online through Global Campus
Instructor: Lendell Black
Course Description: The purpose of this course is to help composers develop the tools needed to create original music for visual media. The course focuses on the aesthetics, procedures and technical aspects of scoring for film and television. Students will learn to write in various styles common to Hollywood, including comedy, drama, action and fantasy-heroic. Recommended: Previously have taken MUTH 3613 or MUTH 3723.
Legal Aspects of The Music Industry MUIN 4013
This course is Online Through Global Campus
Course Description: This course presents an in-depth look at the many types of legal agreements and concepts in the music industry commonly utilized by artists, composers and corporations. Topics include copyright, trademark, recording contracts, management, publishing and licensing. Students will learn how to analyze and understand how these areas of law specifically apply to the entertainment industry and build negotiation skills for real-world situations.
Artist Development MUIN 4563/5563
This course is available face-to-face Tuesday/Thursday 8-9:15 a.m.; Wednesday Lab 8-8:50 a.m.

Course Description: This course represents the academic and applied component of the artist development side of the Music Department's student-run label services project. Students will work on actual project cycles involving selecting artists, recording and producing music, organizing music releases and media campaigns, creating online promotional strategies and mapping the development of musical artist's careers. Through these applied experiences, students will gain hands-on intimate knowledge of the of the artist development in music industry. This course will frequently involve special guest instructors and target tangential areas of the entertainment business: graphics and visuals, artist management, A&R functions, social media and branding.
