Payroll Services Now Part of Financial Affairs

Effective May 1, 2022, the U of A's Payroll Services is now a function of the Office of Financial Affairs, moving from its organizational home in Human Resources.

"Payroll represents the largest volume of financial transactions in the university's general ledger, so it makes sense that it would live in Financial Affairs," said Michael W. White, associate vice chancellor for financial affairs. "We are excited to welcome such an important and dedicated team of people."

Payroll Services will continue to work very closely with Human Resources in meeting the needs of the campus. In many ways, payroll represents the intersection of Human Resources with finance. In addition, with the move of several central administrative units to the university's uptown campus, Payroll Services is physically located on the same floor with the Financial Affairs group.

There are currently eight full-time positions related to payroll that are migrating to the Office of Financial Affairs. Those positions include the director of payroll, assistant director of payroll, two payroll services coordinators, three payroll services specialists and the nonresident taxation coordinator.

Bridgette Johnson, the director of Payroll Services, also serves as the HCM lead with the university's Workday Integrated Support team. She will continue to serve in that key role until the HCM Workday Support Lead position may be filled.
