Everything You Wanted to Know About Writing for Academic Publication But Were Afraid to Ask

As graduate students, we know that publishing is one of those things we're supposed to do, yet it can seem like an impossible task; we may have questions that we're not sure how to get answered, or we don't know what questions to ask in the first place. As advisers, we know how important publishing is for our students, but we don't always know the best way to help our students.

The U of A Writing Studio and guest speaker Ron Martinez, an editor of Applied Linguistics, are offering a workshop aimed at facilitating the sharing of insights around academic writing and publication between advisers and their students. Topics for discussion include how to pick a journal/publisher, how to turn your dissertation into a publishable manuscript and how to deal with rejection.

Graduate students and your advisers, please join us from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, in the new Cordia Harrington Center for Excellence, room 324, to start a discussion that will continue beyond the workshop! Here is the link to the registration form: Event Registration.

Students, if your adviser cannot attend, we will send you a brief questionnaire for your adviser to complete before the workshop so you have information to share.

If you are an adviser, please come and bring your students!
