Pandemic Research Recovery Grants

The chancellor and provost are pleased to announce a Pandemic Research Recovery Grant Program for faculty who have experienced demonstrable pandemic-related research losses. 

The program has the capacity to fund 40 faculty members with $10,000 to reignite their reseach programs. Awards of $5,000 from central funding will be matched by the colleges and may include in-kind matches. Grants may be used for the costs of carrying out research projects and must conform to U of A procedures and policies. 

Eligibility: pre-tenure assistant professors and tenured associate professors who can demonstrate a loss in research and creative activity that has thwarted their progress towards promotion

Proposal Submission Guidelines: Submit one PDF file with the following components:

  1. Statement of pandemic impact on research productivity (maximum two pages): This may include a discussion of increased caregiving responsibilities, personal/family health challenges, increased mentoring activities, loss of grants, publication slowdowns, inability to travel to research sites, lab shutdowns, etc. 
  2. Request justification (maximum one page): Short description of research and its impact on promotion trajectory, why the funds are needed and how the funds will be used.
  3. Existing Institutional Support (maximum one page): List existing support, such as current and pending grants, RIF, startup, departmental support.
  4. Budget (maximum one page): Include an itemized list of expenses that total the amount requested.
  5. CV (maximum five pages)

Post Award Obligation

Report (maximum three pages): Awardees must submit a report on research outcomes to the provost's office within two months of the end of the grant period. The report should also include a discussion of how the funds assisted the awardee in recovering the research program.

Due date is 5 p.m. on Friday, April 15.
