Apply to be a SPEAK Peer Educator Today

University Housing has supported a bystander intervention and sexual assault prevention program called No Woman Left Behind since Fall 2010.  

After reviewing the program purpose and goals, Eric Peltier, a coordinator for residence education, and the peer educators, Meghan Varner and Cianna Rodriguez, identified a need for renaming and refocusing of the initiative to SPEAK.  

The re-branding change comes after feedback was received that the name seemed to be exclusive to women as the audience of the program.  

The change provides a more open and inclusive space for anyone of any gender identity to take ownership over an issue that affects all college students in one way or another.  

A secondary benefit for the change is to inspire and empower more action from students involved. This name change comes with more focused mission and vision statements to drive home the purpose of the program. 

SPEAK Mission 

SPEAK creates a culture of response by providing on-campus residents with peer education facilitated through educational initiatives about sexual assault prevention, including bystander intervention, consent and healthy relationships. 

SPEAK Vision

Developing a culture of awareness and peer intervention helps to decrease the number of sexual assaults. 

SPEAK is also looking for peer educators to help fulfill its mission and vision in our residence halls. You will get the chance to host and collaborate on events in the residence halls focusing on sexual assault awareness, healthy relationships, bystander intervention and consent. 

In addition to this, you will be provided with room and board for where you are placed to live on campus in the residence halls. You will also be able to work desk shifts at the residence hall desks and work closely with hall staff across campus to educate your peers.
