Music Lab Open in Mullins Library

A music lab is now open to all campus users, thanks to a partnership between the University Libraries and the Department of Music. Located in the Hodges Reading Room on the lobby level of Mullins Library, the lab is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and by request.

The lab contains 10 iMac computers equipped with music and video editing software, Komplete Kontrol keyboards and the Scarlett 2i2 interface. Two PC media conversion stations provide access to Audacity audio editing and recording software, Elgato video capture and the Nero Platinum Suite of photo, video and audio software. One viewing station allows users to watch VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray materials.

"The libraries, in collaboration with the Music Department, saw a need to provide students and patrons alike with a generally located music lab - a space that would provide access to equipment, software and tools needed to enhance patrons' unique individual interests as well as accommodate the needs for instructional use," said Stephanie Guenther, multimedia services supervisor. "The Music Lab is open to anyone and everyone! It is our hope that the Music Lab will be a space that accommodates the needs of our patrons and provides a space for all to come to explore and enhance their personal interests and goals."

Those interested in requesting access to the music lab outside of its normal operating hours may email the Multimedia Department at libmulti@uark.edu. Users should note that the lab is currently being used by a Music Technology class that meets from 11 a.m. to 1:20 p.m. each Tuesday and is not open to the public during that time.
