The Journal of Research on the College President recently released its fifth volume, published by the National Lab for the Study of the College President, based at the U of A.

Article topics include the evolving presidential role in fundraising, student impressions of college presidents, pathways to the presidency, legal issues and academic freedom.

"We were thrilled with the contributions made by faculty and researchers from all over the United States," said Michael Miller, journal co-editor and professor of higher education. "We were able to include scholars who have been college presidents, doctoral students and faculty from a wide range of institutions."

The volume includes eight articles representing various research methods. "I think the 31 percent acceptance rate for this volume illustrates that we are getting a good number of submissions," said G. David Gearhart, co-editor and professor of higher education. "We were able to include some established scholars who chose us for the placement of their articles, and I think that reflects well on the work we are doing here."

This is the final journal to include Chancellor Emeritus Gearhart as a co-editor. He plans to retire in the summer of 2022. "I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the journal," he said. "I have every confidence that Dr. Miller and the editorial team will continue to grow the prestige and influence of the journal."

Miller was the 2016-2019 dean of the U of A College of Education and Health Professions. Gearhart served as chancellor of the Fayetteville campus from 2009 to 2015.
