Heath Anderson Selected as December's Student Leader of the Month

Senior Heath Anderson has been selected as the Student Leader of the Month for December 2021. Originally from Little Rock, Anderson came to the University of Arkansas to study journalism. He is currently the station manager at the student-run radio station, KXUA. In addition to his involvement at the radio station, Anderson is also an active member of the University Baptist Church.

Anderson said he got involved in KXUA because he came to the university with a passion for radio, and he became a member of his church because of his love for Christ.

Anderson believes that every leader must treat others as more important than themself in order to grow as a team. "Once you realize that, then you can equip and encourage them to be better versions of themselves," he said.

His advice to other leaders is to have a good understanding of yourself. "We, as humans, control very little, but what we can control is how we respond," he said. "That goes twofold: how we respond to people and how we respond to situations. Respond positively to both — especially people."

Anderson would like to thank Levi Miller, a high school teacher and soccer coach, for being an amazing mentor to him. "He has shown me what it means to be a leader, man, and, most importantly, a believer in Christ."

The Student Leader of the Month award, sponsored by New Student & Family Programs, recognizes University of Arkansas undergraduate students for their excellence in leadership through campus involvement, leadership activities, or through volunteer and community service.  More information about the award can be found here.
