Holocaust Scholar to Speak on Reparations
As part of the "How did the Holocaust affect...?" eight-week seminar, professor Kathy Powers of University of New Mexico will present a lecture titled "Reparations from Germany to the United States and Beyond." This lecture is hosted by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's Campus Outreach Lecture Program.
The COLP program is made possible through the generosity of the Curt C. and Else Silberman Foundation, supporting programs in higher education that promote, protect and strengthen Jewish values in democracy, human rights, ethical leadership and cultural pluralism.
"How did the Holocaust affect...?" has explored roots, history, conditions and effects of the Nazi genocide against the Jews over a series of presentations relating to various areas of study. Topics of discussion have included Holocaust education in the United States and in Arkansas, the creation of the IRB, Soviet national memory, Albert Einstein's political activism, the Holocaust in cinema and literature, various histories of Jewish cultures and issues related to antisemitism and racism in the United States. Students are pursing research projects related to their own areas of interest, ranging from agriculture to sociology, and will be sharing resources with the public via the course website (link below). On the course website, you will find recordings of many of the lectures, more information about the course and our presenters, and a link to register for the Dec. 2 lecture.
"How did the Holocaust affect...?" is made possible with donor support, ensuring that our presenters are compensated for their labor.
