Opera Theatre Presents 'Speed Dating Tonight!' Nov. 4 and 5

The Department of Music's opera theatre is performing Michael Ching's 2013 romcom opera "Speed Dating Tonight!" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Nov. 4-5, at the Jim and Joyce Faulkner Performing Arts Center.

In this one-act comic opera, several young adults participate in a speed dating event at Joe's Bar. While some dates go surprisingly well, others go horribly wrong! (Disclaimer: there is some adult content and language.)

Music director Hyun Kim, visiting assistant professor in the department, and Jonathan Stinson, teaching assistant professor and new faculty member, say that the opera has something for everyone.

"It has poignant moments and comedic absurdity," Kim said.

"The music is as diverse as the characters themselves, featuring selections inspired by romantic opera, contemporary musical theatre, rock and roll, and jazz," Stinson said, adding that he is excited about working with the students in this production.

"The students have been a joy to work with and I am excited both for opening night and for our continued work in future semesters!"

Tickets for the production are free but must be reserved through uark.universitytickets.com.
