Emergency Homecoming Blood Drive

The Red Cross Club at the U of A will be presenting the annual Bleed Razorback Red Homecoming Blood Drive. This is your chance to help alleviate human suffering through the generosity of blood donation, which can possibly save up to three lives. Speak with your philanthropy adviser to see if blood donation is an acceptable form of service to receive volunteer hours.

The campus blood drive will be offered:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 12
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at both the Kappa Sigma Chapter House, 711 W. Dickson, and the Delta Gamma Chapter House, 625 W. Maple.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 13
11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Arkansas Union Verizon Ballroom

"This is such an incredible event with the Razorback community always stepping up to donate at this blood drive," said Cassady Watkins, biomedical account manager, Red Cross Missouri Arkansas Region. "We are so grateful to the university and the student volunteers who play such a vital role in making this Homecoming blood drive successful."

Local sponsors have once again stepped up and generously donated items for this blood drive, including What-a-Burger & Mars-Wrigley.

Those with types O, A-Negative and B-Negative blood are encouraged to make a Power Red donation at this blood drive. Power Red donors give a concentrated dose of red blood cells during a single donation, allowing them to maximize their impact. During this type of donation, red blood cells are separated from other blood components, and the plasma and platelets are safely and comfortably returned to the donor.

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Accident and burn victims, heart surgery patients, organ transplant patients and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease may all need blood. The blood supply in the United States is dangerously low — an uncommon occurrence for this time of year. It is safe to donate blood and all eligible individuals — including those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine — are encouraged to make an appointment to donate blood or platelets now to ensure that blood products will be available for all patients when needed. Fall is typically a time when the blood supply is more stable. If the nation's blood supply does not stabilize soon, hospitals may be forced to alter treatment for some patients or cancel some patient surgeries. Blood donations are needed now to help maintain optimal care for all patients.

About the Red Cross Club: The Mission of the Red Cross Club at the University of Arkansas prevents and alleviates human suffering by mobilizing the power of Razorbacks and the generosity of donors, while providing educational resources, networking opportunities and growth in leadership.
