University Recreation is set to host their annual Fitober challenge during the month of October. The event runs from Oct. 1-31. Participants may log their physical activity to win prizes.

Fitober is free and does not require a UREC membership. All university faculty, staff and students may participate. Participants who log 600 minutes of physical activity will receive a pair of UREC performance socks and qualify to be in a drawing for additional prizes.

"I enjoy that UREC offers a physical wellness challenge each semester," said Paula Prescott, administrative support supervisor. "Fitober keeps me engaged with my fitness goals and helps me stay accountable."

Participants may still sign up individually, but also have the option to create a team. The team option allows peer groups to offer support and encourage each other throughout the challenge.

"Our area really enjoyed the comradery participating in Fitober," said Laura Cate, executive director, administrative and development services. "We held some of our one-on-ones as 'Walk and Talk' and encouraged everyone to start their fitness journey where they are. A 10-minute stroll around the building or campus does wonders for clarity and attention to work detail."

Fitober has a new platform this year for logging physical activity minutes. Participants may sign up for the challenge and log your physical activity starting Oct. 1 at fitevent.uark.edu. Participants should log in using their current username and password. Once they create their account, they can download Power Apps by Microsoft to their mobile device and log their physical activity with the ease of an app.
