Donna Carter, senior project program director, will retire at the end of July after 38 years of service. Carter started her career at what was then known as Computing Services, then accepted a new position within the Procurement Office of Business Affairs, which included learning to utilize a new Word Data, word-processing system utilizing the only computer within the entire Administration Building at that time.

Carter then worked as a buyer within Business Affairs for several years before taking over the management of the Travel Office. When the university decided to build and implement its own HR and finance system during the Y2K crisis, Carter was placed on the system development and implementation team, where she had the privilege of working with an outstanding group of employees, technical and functional members to design and implement the BASIS system, which served as the university's HR and finance system for over 30 years.

Carter then worked for two years within the Athletic Business Office, where she credits Clayton Hamilton, the chief financial officer, with allowing her to learn more about budgeting and financial reporting. Carter then had the opportunity to return to the BASIS team, where she became the main voice for training the campus, until the implementation of Workday in July 2020.

Most recently, after working as a member of the University's Workday Implementation Team, Carter returned to her roots working with Business Services to provide guidance in the areas of travel, e-procurement and supplier management.

Please join us for a drop-in reception honoring Carter's service at Uptown Campus, downstairs breakroom (next to courtyard between Uptown West and Uptown East buildings) from 3-5 p.m., Thursday, July 29.
