Norman Dennis, Senior Associate Dean and University Professor, to Retire
Norman Dennis, University Professor of civil engineering and senior associate dean of the College of Engineering, will be retiring from his position on July 31 after 25 years working on the U of A campus.

"For a quarter of a century, Dr. Dennis served the College of Engineering, the last six of those years within the Dean's Office." Kim Needy, Dean of the College of Engineering said, "He has a reputation across campus of being a top administrator, a great listener, an excellent problem solver, and has an unwavering commitment to the College's teaching mission, always setting high academic integrity standards. His impact will be long standing."
"Norm has been a great mentor for many of the faculty in the department since his arrival in 1996. He has been the 'go to person' for many of our faculty," said Micah Hale Civil Engineering Department Head, "Outside the department and the U of A, through his work with ExCEEd (ASCE's teaching workshop, Excellence in Civil Engineering Education), he has improved civil engineering education on almost every campus in the U.S. We all wish him the best in his retirement."
Dennis has been with the University of Arkansas since 1996. During his tenure at the university, he served as co-director of the Wally Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center from 2010 to 2012, and as a distinguished visiting professor at the United States Air Force Academy in 2008-2009. Before coming to the U of A, Dennis served as a career U.S. Army Engineer officer and was a senior faculty member at the United States Military Academy for 12 years, where he served as director of research and director of civil engineering. Dennis is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Society for Engineering Education; he is also a member of the Arkansas and Missouri Academies of Civil Engineers. He received a bachelor's and a master's degree in civil engineering form the Missouri University of Science and Technology (then University of Missouri-Rolla) and a master's degree in Business Administration from Boston University. He earned a doctorate in geotechnical engineering at the University of Texas-Austin.
