Carole Shook Named as New Co-Director of the Wally Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center
The Wally Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Kathy Sloan are pleased to announce that Carole Shook has accepted a three-year term as TFSC co-director. Shook will join the center in August and will be responsible for coordinating the center's events and programs along with co-directors Lynn Meade and Don Johnson. She will serve a three-year term replacing Jack Kern who is rotating off after serving an additional one-year term as co-director.
According to Shook, "I have been attending TFSC events since the start of my teaching career at the University over 20 years ago and several co-directors have been role models for me. I have tried to take at least one thing from each event I attended to improve my classes which I believe has been a part of my classroom evolution (and survival over 20 years!). I hope to continue the traditions of the TFSC and be a part of providing cutting-edge teaching programs and support to many different faculty roles. If you have a teaching idea or something you would like to see presented please contact me or the other directors."
Shook is a three-time graduate of the University of Arkansas with a B.S.B.A. in general business, an M.B.A. with an emphasis in accounting/marketing, and an Ed.D. in higher education, and she is a teaching assistant professor in the Department of Information Systems in the Sam M. Walton College of Business. She has taught 16 different courses in three Walton College departments, advised 30 undergraduate Honors students, and has received numerous teaching awards, including Outstanding University RSO Advisor (three times) and Walton College awards for both outstanding teaching and outstanding service. She is a fellow of the UA Teaching Academy and was a finalist for the John and Lois Imhoff Award for Outstanding Student Mentorship.
Continuing co-directors Lynn Meade and Don Johnson and program manager Lori Libbert are pleased to welcome Shook to the TFSC team. According to Johnson, "Carole has a well-known and sustained record of teaching excellence, and we are excited to have her ideas, expertise, and enthusiasm helping to lead the TFSC."
Established in 1992, the Wally Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center serves as an interactive resource for faculty, instructors, and graduate teaching assistants to enhance teaching and learning. Events coordinated by the center include the Faculty Lunch Series, Faculty Enrichment Series, Winter Teaching Symposium, and Teaching Camp.
