Women's History Month: Daisy Gatson Bates
Few Arkansans have left legacies as impactful as that of Daisy Gatson Bates.
Co-publisher of the Arkansas State Press, president of the Arkansas NAACP, mentor to the Little Rock Nine who integrated the city's Central High, author of The Long Shadow of Little Rock, delegate to the Electoral College, and more, she remains an icon of the movement for civil rights for African Americans.
In 1957, the national Associated Press named her one of the top 10 newsmakers worldwide.
