Women's History Month: Margarita Solorzano

From the suffrage movement to today, women's rights activists have a rich history of simultaneously advancing other causes: racial equity, quality schools, clean drinking water, workplace safety, and more.

Margarita Solorzano, left, is a local example of this long tradition. After helping the Springdale School District improve its services to students of all backgrounds in the late 1990s, she joined with several others to establish the Hispanic Women's Organization of Arkansas and the Arkansas Coalition for a Better Future, among others.

These groups have focused on expanded educational opportunities, a support system to the region's newcomers, and greater understanding between people of different backgrounds.
