Participants can turn on live captions during Zoom meetings.

As part of an ongoing commitment to making university tools more accessible, IT Services has enabled the live transcription feature for Zoom meetings. This allows users to turn on live captions during meetings.

"Enabling the Zoom live transcription feature helps to make university meetings more accessible," Kathryn Zawisza, Director of Academic Tech and Innovation, said, "Live transcriptions also allow us to embrace universal design principles for courses that make learning, participating, and collaborating easier for everyone."

While the live transcription tool can be used to assist participants, there are limitations to its accuracy. Background noise, volume, and speed of speech can impact the captions. To guarantee accuracy, Zoom hosts can also assign individuals to manually caption meetings.

Users should check for the latest version of Zoom to enable this tool. Live transcription requires version 5.0.2 or higher on the app or the web browser. For more information on enabling this feature, visit the Zoom support page.  For more information on Zoom, visit the IT Services Zoom page
