Sophomore Council Applications Now Open to Current First-Year Students

New Student and Family Programs is now accepting applications for the 2021 Sophomore Council through Friday, March 12.

Sophomore Council applications are only open to current first-year students, and selected applicants will serve on the Sophomore Council volunteer programming board during their sophomore year (starting in the fall 2021 semester).

The Sophomore Council will play a key role in the planning and implementation of important campus events, including A-Week and Welcome Weeks, and will serve as student mentors to first-year students during the fall semester. This student team will be made up of 20 students who are passionate about helping new students transition into college and want to create programs and opportunities for students to connect and feel welcome on campus.

Members of the Sophomore Council will:

  • Become members of a community and support system for other second-year students 
  • Receive professional development training from senior student leaders as well as the staff of New Student & Family Programs
  • Develop event planning and facilitation experience
  • Learn how to develop effective mentoring skills by serving as A-Team Leaders during A-Week and as First-Year Mentors during the fall semester to new students who request a mentor
