Tamara Ellenbecker has been named staff member of the quarter in the College of Engineering.

Ellenbecker, who is a media specialist in the Department of Industrial Engineering, was honored for her achievements during the first quarter of fiscal year 2021.

Ellenbecker joined the Department of Industrial Engineering in 2005 and has played a critical role in the department's communications efforts throughout that time.

Department Head Ed Pohl praised Ellenbecker's efforts to keep the department moving forward during COVID-19.

"At a time when it could have been easy to fly under the radar while working from home, Tamara stepped up even more than normal," he said.  "We stayed visible even while our office was dark thanks to Tamara. I truly believe this helped give a sense of normalcy to our students, faculty, staff, and alumni."

Chase Rainwater, associate professor of industrial engineering, said Ellenbecker's impact is felt throughout the department.

"Tamara is so often the hidden ingredient in the success of our department's faculty and students," he said.  "Her ability to integrate creativity and professionalism into all her work yields websites, newsletters and information documents that help faculty obtain new grants, entice students to the College of Engineering and shine the brightest light on our Department as an enterprise."

Ashley Reeves, president of the Engineering Staff Council, said Ellenbecker exemplifies the meaning of the award.

"The Staff Employee of the Quarter Award is designed to celebrate the achievements and recognize the hard work of our most dedicated employees," she said. "It is evident that Tamara goes above and beyond the call of duty and our college is most fortunate to have her as part of our team. I have seen Tamara excel at her job within Industrial Engineering, but what really impresses me is her willingness to help others throughout the college. Often, Tamara is the go-to for questions from her peers and that breadth of knowledge is certainly commendable. I am extremely happy for Tamara in winning this most-deserved award."
