Steinmetz Releases Proclamation, Video for Racial Healing Day
Chancellor Joe Steinmetz issued a proclamation in recognition of National Day of Racial Healing, in addition to conducting a video interview with Inclusion Liaison Anthony DiNicola on how to build an anti-racist campus.
The six-minute video discusses the importance of an anti-racist campus and its impact on our students and employees, how the past year has affected Steinmetz's views on equity, and how DiNicola's role can support Steinmetz's and students' diversity and inclusion efforts.
"If [there's] anything the pandemic has told us about this institution it's that we can be more flexible than we think we can be," Steinmetz remarked when discussing the institutional pivot needed to become a more anti-racist campus. "I am very fully confident that we can be a different institution in a short period of time."
Additionally, Steinmetz released a proclamation in honor of National Day of Racial Healing on behalf of himself and campus leadership.
Events are being hosted across the state and country in honor of the day, including a nationwide virtual livestream at 2 p.m. For more information about the National Day of Racial Healing, go to last week's news story.
