Virtual Recital to Highlight Black, Hispanic and Women Composers

The U of A Department of Music oboe studio will host their recital, "Changing Dynamics," at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, through the UA Music YouTube channel.
"Changing Dynamics" will showcase different music pieces from Black, Hispanic and Women composers. Musicians from the Oboe studio primarily focused on performing pieces from Hispanic composers and unaccompanied repertoire.
"With the all-important emphasis on diversity this year, I wanted to improve my own and my student's attention to diversity," professor Theresa Delaplain said, "and it seemed like a good way to do this would be to expand our musical repertoire to include more minorities, to change the dynamic and branch out from more traditional repertoire."
Due to the pandemic, the oboe studio had each student record their videos from home. From there, Delaplain compiled all the footage to make one video for the recital.
"Working with students through Zoom can be challenging," Delaplain said. "Overall, I think we would all prefer to meet in person, but we tried to make the best of it."
After the recital, the video will be archived on the UA Music YouTube channel for future viewings.
