"From the Margins to the Center: A Critical Examination of Black Women's Communicative Resistence" is the first intallment in the series of colloquia sponsored by The Center for Communication Research in tandem with the Department of Communication. The colloquium series will span the 2020-2021 academic year. This first event is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 5:30 p.m. over Zoom (ID: 843 4762 4907, PASSCODE: 6B&PfG6H). 

Dr. Shardé M. Davis, assistant professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Connecticut, will present her work on the way Black women leverage communication in the sistah circle to invoke collective identity, erect and fortify the boundaries around their homeplace, and backfill the necessary resources to return to white/male dominant spaces in American society.
Davis is published in over 30 peer-refereed articles and invited book chapters. Her research was formally recognized with the 2018 American Postdoctoral Fellowship from the American Association of University Women and the 2019 Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship.
