How to Leverage Award-Winning Operations Management Techniques From INFORMS Franz Edelman Award
Members of the campus community are invited to watch Carrie Beam, teaching associate professor in the Operations Management program and 2021 INFORMS Edelman Prize Chair, on how to leverage cutting-edge operations management techniques to maximize organizational performance.
The presentation will take place Jan. 27, 2021 from noon to 1 p.m CST.
The Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS), is an international association for operations research and analytics professionals.
The INFORMS Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in Advanced Analytics, Operations Research, and Management Science identifies innovative applications of operations management in fields as diverse as sewer district management, school bus scheduling, polio vaccinations, and transportation. In this seminar, Beam will introduce the audience to the keys of stakeholder engagement, iterative development and scaled-up implementation of operations management techniques. Beam holds a Ph.D. in industrial engineering and operations research from the University of California at Berkeley, and has taught Introduction to Operations Management, Introduction to Decision Support Systems, Introduction to Analytics, Probability and Statistics, Lean Six Sigma, Maintenance and Reliability, Risk Management, and a variety of other operations management topics since she began with the program in 2012. She has been teaching online since 2007. She also works as a consultant, specializing in data science and analytics. Projects utilize descriptive and predictive analytics that help inform such decisions as market segmentation, direct marketing strategy, customer churn analysis, and coupon/pricing analysis.
