The Arkansas Alumni Association and the College of Education and Health Professions are hosting two special fall events this week.

The virtual events will be moderated by College of Education and Health Professions dean and physician, Dr. Brian Primack. The first will be at noon on Thursday, Oct. 22. It will feature faculty and alumni from the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing. Topics will include the nursing school's response to COVID-19 and how alumni from the school were prepared to serve on the front lines during the pandemic. There will also be an update about enhancements to the nursing school's simulation lab, which now offers escape rooms and other gamification opportunities to teach students. Register now to save your spot for this timely conversation. The Zoom link and password will be provided in your registration confirmation email.

The second event will be at noon on Friday, Oct. 23, and will focus on master's-level athletic training students who have been awarded scholarships named for legendary Razorback athletic trainers Dean Weber and Bill Ferrell.

It will be a treat to hear from Dean Weber at this virtual celebration. Weber served as the head athletic trainer of the Arkansas Razorback football team from 1973-2008. Since then, he has supported the U of A as the director of equipment services from 2008-2014 and as an assistant director with the Razorback Foundation for the past six years.

Athletic training students receiving the Bill Ferrell Endowed Scholarship in Athletic Training are Bailey Bastien, Callie Tosh, Fernanda Guitron Topete, Kyle Holland and J.D. Pletsch. Pletsch will also receive the Dean Weber Athletic Training Scholarship.

The Dean Weber endowed scholarship was initiated by a group of 14 football players who were seniors during the 1979 Southwest Conference Championship.

Two additional students will be honored at this virtual event. Ava Chiarelli will receive the Zachary Brian Hooper Endowed Award in Athletic Training and Stevie Blackburn-Lazalde will receive Dr. A.Y. "Al" Gordon, Jr. Award in Athletic Training.

You're invited to help celebrate these students and all their successes. Register now to reserve a spot. The Zoom link and password will be provided in your registration confirmation email.

About the Online Lunch and Learns: The Arkansas Alumni Association Online Lunch and Learn programs aim to engage University of Arkansas alumni, friends and family by hosting live online Zoom conferences in which a variety of different topics are discussed and presented. Each program features a different speaker and focuses on a different topic. Those who participate will have the opportunity to interact with and ask the speaker questions all while getting together — virtually — with other alumni across the globe.
