'Picture A Scientist' Documentary Available for Free Viewing Sept. 18-25
The Department of Geosciences is sponsoring a U of A personalized screening of the documentary Picture a Scientist between Sept. 18-25.
The documentary "chronicles the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientist.
Biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks and geologist Jane Willenbring lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, ranging from brutal harassment to years of subtle slights.
Along the way, from cramped laboratories to spectacular field stations, we encounter scientific luminaries — including social scientists, neuroscientists, and psychologists — who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more "diverse, equitable, and open to all." View a trailer here.
Please fill out this form by Sept. 18 to receive instructions on how to access the screening online between Sept. 18-25.
In addition, at 3:05 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, we will host a discussion with Jane Willenbring of the School of Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences at Stanford University and one of the scientists portrayed in the documentary.
