Teams will be the default softphone app for the university's VoIP system.

Starting today, Monday, Aug. 17, all new Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone numbers will be created with Microsoft Teams, rather than Skype for Business. This does not impact physical VoIP phone devices.

This is the first step toward creating a unified platform for campus before Microsoft retires Skype for Business on July 31, 2021. Skype for Business users are encouraged to start using Teams to allow ample time to complete upgrades prior to the retirement date.

IT Services encourages departments already using Teams for other functions to move their VoIP service over to prepare in advance. Departments can request to have multiple users added to Teams at once. To get started, submit a ticket that includes the UARK usernames to be switched over.
